. you're watching the station that works for you. abc 2news at 121. >> this is a sliver of virginia here today. a little more than an inch of snow. it's not sticking much to the roads but it's causing flight delays because of low visibility. winter storm warnings in effect through tomorrow. around here, clear and sunday. >> overnight we could see a few sprinkles. wyatt joining us to say it may not be to much. >> depends where are you watching from. we thought would be a mainly southern storm. that was the case. as you can see, southeastern maryland up to route 50, seeing some winter weather as we went past the nine or 10:00 hour. you can see the snow band. just south of easton. toward saint michaels, they are getting snow in salsbury. this cut off has been sharp.

where we are getting light radar returns, so far haven't seen any surface reports saying it's hitting the ground. mainly south of washington in the lower eastern shore. that snow as it came down south of dc and richmond. we caught it here on the weatherbug camera. aceta couple congratulations starting to add up down the richmond way. travel down i-95, could be tricky, keep that in mind. the winter weather advisories for areas south of maryland. rest of tonight we will throw in the chance for a few more scattered mixed showers, mainly south of route 50. more on how things shape upcoming up. >> thank you. tonight over a hundred young teens gathered to remember their friend . he opened the door of a moving car to get sick. >> we have learned the 13-year- old was drinking a powerful combination of caffeine and

alcohol. cheryl connor. >> reporter: that's right. michael's mom said he was drinking 4loko when he fell out of his stepfather's car. i talked to her and a friend with the 13-year-old before he died. over 100 young teens are here to remember their friend. as they pause, his mom has a message. >> he drank one of those energy drink was alcohol that all the kids seem to think is okay. he needed to throw up and he opened up the door and fell out out and then was run over. >> reporter: ben was hanging out with michael before the accident. >> we just came from the stream. >> reporter: were you drinking? >> yes. >> reporter: he said they were drinking 4loko a powerful combination of alcohol and caffeine. >> and some adult out there bought it. >> reporter: in 2010 alcohol districtors in maryland agreed to stop selling and it was banned in the city.

baltimore county police say the car carrying him was making a turn out of the auto zone parking lot on hartford saturday after six when the teen opened the door. the driver of the car that hit him stopped at the scene. >> i have a 15-month-old son and michael was an uncle and -- michael loved lucas. he was great with him. i just can't believe it's happening. he was one of my best friends. >> reporter: he was in 8th grade at parkville. his parents are here to help explain the news to their children. >> as a mother how do you help your son cope? >> just talk to him. see how he feels. it's a hard thing. >> reporter: there is one mom here tonight who doesn't have another chance to explain the consequences of drinking. still she has the strength, just 24 hours after her son was killed to encourage his friends to make better choices. >> it's not cool to drink and to get high. accidents happen on the best intentions. i have lot of the only son i

that's happened inside the courtroom. it's at the website. >> on the heels of a deadly apartment fire, baltimore city firefighters went door to door in mount vernon racing awareness about fire safety. this three days after an elderly man died of injuries he had during this fire. it started in the 500 block of north charles on the 16th floor. he went in to the kitchen because of food in the microwave was burning. firefighters say he was wearing an oxygen mask and when he opened the microwave door the oxygen fanned the flames. >> we will take you out to washington state where three have died after an avalanche. septemberors say that the men were all expert skiers, all welle equipped and they were among three groups skiing out of bounds at the stevens pass ski area. this is 80 miles northeast of seattle. the survivors tried to help. >> whitney houston's how many

in cities everywhere, selling used tires. along with the stores come concerns. february, a time of year for a tire eating pot holes. >> it felt felt like a big pot hole. >> reporter: that flat is just the first shock, the second happens at the tire store with the average tire price now over a hundred dollars. as a result the used tire business is now booming. >> hi. >> reporter: how good are the used ones in we sent two producers to a used tire store. the store had one in the correct size for her car. >> think we could put that one on? >> reporter: she paid a bargin $25 for the used tire, just one last question. >> how long will it last? >> reporter: the tech said it was good for thousands more miles. the next morning it was flat. what happened? we took the car to a auto shop.

up accumulating snow, most of the action has been -- and probably will continue to be south of route 50. of course richmond getting the most out of this system at least right along the bay area with in 50 miles of the chesapeake it would be richmond, roanoke getting more and there is one band out here to the northwest of baltimore that shows at least some potential, perhaps putting down a light snow shower to the north and west of town. 42 degrees, obviously anything that does fly, flake wise won't stick. at least north of route 50. we are at 42 degrees. ten degrees above the freezing mark and check out the cameras, baltimore justin creasing clouds, nothing happening but washington we watched more interest here, and finally picking up a few rain and mixed showers through parts of the late evening here, more interesting pictures out of richmond where this is an area that started to get the accumulating snows, once we got well past sunset and the air temperature was able to drop more and then roanoke getting

the most in terms of snow, heavy, well, a more heavy snow situation here with an inches of accumulations in the high country. not the best set up going into a snow event. there could be a light coating in spots. southern part of the state not far above freezing, 35 at dullus, easton at the freezing mark. won't be surprise fire department you get that light sugar coating overnight and the lower eastern shore could get an inch or two of accumulation. this has been a southern storm and just catching the edge and the back side of this storm is starting to dive south. it'll head south and east. look at these reduced visibilities, you get the idea that charlotte asville the snow still coming down. cutting the visibility and across the area you can see where the areas are, one on monday. that part of southern virginia south of charlottesville as you

go down through the central part of the state. all the way down to the inland of virginia beach and out in western virginia still winter storm warnings for the wind and still snow coming down. the back received system you see it make that dive south. i think for the extent we will see snow showers they will be short lived especially from baltimore northward we will be lucky to see a brief flurry. cold, dry a behind it. overnight but tomorrow still warm up to seasonable levels in the 40s and clear the skies out nicely and that will hold up into the day on tuesday. really, a nice set up to start off the weekend for president's day if you have it off. 32 tonight. yes there could be slick and coated areas lower eastern shore and southern maryland. we are looking good tomorrow. 48, sunny skies and tomorrow night temperatures dropping to the upper 20s under clear skies, take a look at the outlook. you know we are talking about
